Holding Onto Summer: Simple Nature-Inspired Ways to Slow Down Before Fall

There’s something special about the second half of August.

Summer hasn’t quite left us. The flowers are still blooming, bees and butterflies are still busy in the garden, and there are plenty of warm evenings left to enjoy. But if you pay attention, you can feel the season beginning to shift.

The days are getting just a little shorter. Mornings can feel different. And before long, we’ll be reaching for sweaters, warm drinks, and all the cozy things that come with fall.

Instead of rushing into the next season, this is a beautiful time to slow down and enjoy where we are right now.

At Gabby Ella’s, we’re increasingly inspired by the connection between nature, creativity, and everyday self-care. Late summer gives us plenty of opportunities to enjoy all three.

🌿 Bring a Little Nature Inside

You don’t need to completely redecorate your home for every season.

Sometimes one small piece of nature can change the feeling of a room.

Clip a few flowers from the garden and place them in a little vase. Move a favorite houseplant to your reading area. Gather a few interesting leaves, herbs, or wildflowers during a walk.

Even tending to your plants can become a quiet ritual rather than another item on your to-do list.

Water them slowly. Trim away old leaves. Notice new growth.

Nature has a wonderful way of reminding us that everything has its season.

🎨 Make Something Just Because You Enjoy It

Creativity doesn’t have to result in something perfect—or even something you keep.

Color a page.

Sketch a flower.

Paint a tiny flowerpot.

Press flowers between the pages of a book.

Write in a journal.

Spend twenty minutes doing something with your hands instead of looking at another screen.

Creative activities give us permission to focus on the moment rather than everything waiting for us afterward.

That’s one reason we’re excited to bring more creative wellness into Gabby Ella’s through coloring, art, journaling, and nature-inspired activities.

🌸 Create a Little Corner Just for You

Self-care doesn’t require an entire room—or an elaborate routine.

Find one small place in your home that makes you happy.

Maybe it’s a chair beside a sunny window, a corner of the porch, or a little table surrounded by plants.

Add a few things you enjoy: a book, your journal, colored pencils, a favorite plant, or a candle.

We especially love things that can have a second life. A beautiful candle vessel that later becomes a flowerpot fits perfectly with the way we think about our homes: use what you love, give things another purpose, and let something new grow.

🐝 Notice the Last Little Gifts of Summer

Some of our favorite late-summer moments have been happening right outside our own door.

The zinnias are blooming, and the bees and butterflies have certainly noticed.

Watching them move from flower to flower is such a simple thing, but it’s also a wonderful reminder to stop for a moment and notice what’s happening around us.

Sit outside with your morning coffee.

Pick fresh herbs.

Take an evening walk.

Listen to the sounds outside your window.

Watch a bee disappear into the center of a flower or a butterfly pause long enough for you to really see its beautiful wings.

These things don’t cost anything, and they don’t require a self-care schedule.

Sometimes caring for ourselves simply means being present long enough to notice what’s already around us.

🌱 Let the Seasons Change Slowly

Soon enough, there will be pumpkins, falling leaves, cooler evenings, and all the wonderful coziness of autumn.

We’ll enjoy that season when it arrives.

For now, we’re holding onto the flowers, plants, bees, butterflies, sunshine, and long summer evenings just a little longer.

Gabby Ella’s is growing too.

As we move into this next chapter, you’ll see more nature-inspired gifts, creative activities, reusable pieces, art, and thoughtfully curated gift sets designed to encourage little moments of comfort and creativity.

Not complicated self-care.

Just meaningful ways to pause, create, connect with nature, and care for yourself—or someone you love.

Here’s to enjoying the season we’re in. 🌿
